The bells of Christ Church, Crewe, have been silent since October 2013 and are officially unringable. However, behind the scenes, Tom Nestor has been working hard with Cheshire East Council and the Diocese of Chester to enable the bells to ring as part of the Remembrance Centenary events in the town.
The bells needed testing before the big day of Sunday 11th November 2018, so a practice was held on the Wednesday before, with all ringers warned of the potential risks. Everything went more-or-less swimmingly, the only issue being the large amount of pigeon detritus landing on the head of the ringer of the 4th as she rang it up!
Some of the ringing was recorded by the YouTuber known as 8spliced, and is now uploaded to his channel. The video can be found here.
