Chester Cathedral Guild of Change Ringers: Quarter Peal day to remember the fallen

On Saturday 10th November 2018 the bell ringers of Chester Cathedral will perform a rare act of bell ringing to mark the centenary of the first world war. The day will be marked by seven quarter peals, which will be rung half muffled each taking an hour.

Throughout the day the Addleshaw tower will be open to the public, and people will be given the chance to meet the bell ringers and discover the art of bell ringing.

Details of the day so far are below:

Meet at 8.00am at the Addleshaw tower to begin preparation for the day.

Goal of the day is to ring a quarter peal on all combinations of bells from 6-12, which are the following;

  • All 12
  • Back 10
  • Back 8
  • Back 6
  • Front 6 of the 10
  • Middle 8
  • Back 6 of the middle 8

Quarter peals in order of the day:

  1. 8.30am – 9.30am (back 6 of the 8)
  2. 10.00am – 11.00am (12)
  3. 11.15am – 12.15pm (back 8)
  4. 12.30pm – 1.30pm (front 6 of the 10)
  5. 1.45pm – 2.45pm(middle 8)
  6. 3.00pm – 4.00pm (back 6 )
  7. 5.15pm – 7.00pm (10)
