Grappenhall’s old ring of 8 finish not only the year but their centuries of service to the local community by ringing out a final, triumphant peal of 5152 Yorkshire Surprise Major in 2h48 by a Chester DG band, consisting mostly of local ringers. The full details can be found here: https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1264829.
It was also the first peal since 1987 on the bells, so the band should be congratulated on this significant achievement.
The bells will be removed in early 2019 and will hopefully ring out as a brand new ten in the summer.
Magnificent achievement! 2019 will be a very exciting year for our ringing neighbours. Looking forward to welcoming the Grappenhall Nomads at Stockton Heath for the next two weeks!
What’s wrong with the old ones? Congratulations on the peal.
